Panoramic Series #14: Rainy Sunset Kelso Valley
A few weeks back there were some amazing thunderstorms that made their way through the southern Sierra Nevada Mountains. As the sun was setting, the rays of light broke through the underside of the cloud coverage and illuminated the rain as it was falling on the Piute Mountains.
Piper Lovemore Belly Photos
Piper and Chaz have since had their beautiful little girl that was in
the womb when we took these photos, but I have to share these still.
They are one of the most beautiful and loving families I know and this
little girl has come unto an amazing new life.

Being back in California has been great. I’ve been spending time skating with all of the Kern County and Intuition Land crew that I came up under years ago. Anthony Luna was THE skater that we all looked up to. Luna is a team rider for Intuition Skate Shop and a flow rider for Remz. We used to do a photo session for Intuition every time Remz would come out with a new skate. That was the beginning of my exposure as a photographer in the rolling industry, thanks to Matt’s tireless promotion of the rollerblade scene through his shop and Luna’s charged motivation to get out there and get that shot. Years later, it is great to come back around to the home front and feel the strength of my old rolling community. I have watched Luna constantly push and encourage the young and up-and-coming rollers of Taft, CA, which has a skate park where the rollerbladers often outnumber everyone else; where can you find that? Luna has always been big on negative tricks, and we have definitely sessioned rails much gnarlier than this six stair, but this neg-acid he threw down over and over again was clean every time. Getting my lighting right was the only reason we had to keep shooting because he has negative everything on the lock-down. Equipment used: Nikon D300 on tripod, Nikkor 18-70mm @ 18mm, shot at f/4 @ 1/5 ISO 250. Nikon Speedlight SB-800 at 55º camera right

Over the past year I’ve had the opportunity to roll amongst the community of Hawaiian rollers. Coming from the west coast, I had been spoiled, one might say, with the frequency of skater organized events and numerous rollerblade crews. Oahu had a stronger rolling scene than I had expected. From any given point on the island you were no more than 20 minutes from a decent skate park. Catching up with Akari Ihara on the drive home was an occasional treat. You may have seen this guy on the cover of the Rollerwarehouse catalog about a year back, Liu Kang air with the green frames. Akari is essentially the backbone of the Oahu rolling scene. Throwing the annual Hawaii Real Street Contest every summer on the streets of Oahu, and staying consistent with the weekly Sunday skate sessions are a few of the contributions he makes to the island rolling experience. As he was soaring through Manana skate park one afternoon, we had a mellow photo shoot. After gapping quarter-to-quarter over the 12-foot plus channel, Akari came at the sub-box from the other direction and threw down a tourqued top soul. That was the trick that made the shot, and we called it a session. Shot with Nikon D300, 18-70mm Nikkor at 29mm. f/7.1 @ 1/250 ISO 100. Nikon SB-800 at 45º camera left.

Taft Session: Anthony Luna & Chad Tannhill
Recently I got to skate over in Taft City, CA with Anthony Luna and the local crew. Luna and I have been skating and shooting for over ten years now, and man have we built up a portfolio over the years. This is the latest addition to our sessions. Luna rides for Intuition Skate Shop and is also on flow for Remz. Haffey just came out with his signature 2.2 pro model skates, so we had to do a photo shoot on the streets of Taft. We kept it mellow but clean. Enjoy the show.

Taonga Glass Highlights
While living in Hawaii, I had the opportunity to shoot in the Taonga Glass studio with Edward (Ted) Clark. Ted is a sculptor working out of Oahu, HI, but often travels across the Pacific to Seattle for building up his stock of glass. His work is featured in galleries throughout the United States and often holds very interactive workshops in his studio on Oahu. I wanted to share some of the highlights from the photo sessions that we had in his studio.
